Chelsea have agreed a fee for the club's right-back [Lyon Malo Gusto].

Chelsea have agreed a deal with Lyon to sign right-back Malo Gusto. his contract with France.

An opening bid was tabled by Chelsea but Lyon rejected it and went public insisting Gusto will stay at the club for the remainder of the campaign, leaving the door open to agreeing a deal which would see the defender leave the club. return to Lyon for the next six months.

Instead of turning their backs on Gusto and making him another target, Chelsea agreed to Lyon's demands and agreed a deal that would see the right-back stay on loan in France for the rest of the campaign.

Chelsea are believed to have agreed to pay an initial €30 million to sign Gusto, who came to London to undergo a medical with the Blues before returning to France.

The deal is expected to be confirmed quickly, with Gusto officially returning to Lyon on loan, unlike RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, whose move to Chelsea has already been agreed, but will expire at the end of the season.

Chelsea remain confident in right-back Reece James, but will be looking to provide top-quality cover for the England international, who has battled a string of injury problems in recent months.

Those in charge at Stamford Bridge wanted a quick signing to cover James, with Inter's Denzel Dumfries among those linked with a move, but Chelsea immediately settled on Gusto and opted to stay away from their plans.

In the short term, it leaves Chelsea with only James as a natural fit for the wing-back role, with 33-year-old Cesar Azpilicueta being more of a traditional defender.

On the other hand, Chelsea is on the verge of sending the young midfielder Cesare Casadei, who joined an expensive deal from Inter in the summer, on loan to Reading so he can taste English football.

Chelsea's busy schedule in January shows no signs of slowing down, despite already landing five players.

The Blues, who are 10th in the Premier League, have signed Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana and Benoit Badiashile.

Chelsea are 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and are desperate to finish in the top four to bring Champions League football back to Stamford Bridge.

Another signature is coming soon. The 19-year-old will fly to London and undergo a medical on Saturday, with the player set to join the Blues in June 2023.

Lyon will receive €30m plus buy-outs and keep the star on loan for the rest of the season.

OL coach Laurent Blanc said that the management of the club has guaranteed that he will stay at the club this season, while the loan is resolved.
