Enzo Fernandez: Liverpool fears that Boehly will deal with Chelsea and is ready to erase the English transfer market record

Todd Boehl] is flying to Lisbon on Monday to try and negotiate an exclusive deal to sign Enzo Fernandez - and the Chelsea owner is ready to completely destroy the English transfer record to find his man.

The Argentine midfielder has shown himself to be one of the leading young stars of the World Cup. With his nation claiming World Cup glory, the demand for his services quickly reached a fever pitch.

In fact, Liverpool are reported to be one of those teams who have been following the player's progress closely.

Watching him in Qatar, they could only admire his crown as the tournament's best player.

As the Reds look to overhaul their midfield in 2023, Fernandez is very much on Jurgen Klopp's wish list.

However, the most difficult moves since the end of the World Cup have come from Chelsea. They were in talks with Benfica after the end of the World Cup that they wanted to bring to Stamford Bridge.

While Chelsea initially hoped that an £80m offer would do the trick, Benfica were quick to refer to the transfer fee's potential.

The fee is said to be £105.6m (€120m) - a fee that sets a new record for the English transfer market.

In order to make that money more valuable, Chelsea tried many techniques to reduce its initial costs.

At first, Boehly tried to offer more than Fernandez's asking price, but by paying the fee in small installments over time.

Then, when Benfica rejected that, demanding the full amount of the striker, Chelsea tried a new approach.

However, their bid to sign Fernandez by offering three players as part of the only replacement has angered the Portuguese club.

Chelsea tried again for Enzo Fernandez, which led to the Blues giving up the chase and turning elsewhere.

As such, they saw a £55million bid rejected by Brighton for Moises Caicedo, leaving Chelsea scratching their heads as to what to do next.

With Caicedo now seemingly close to signing for Arsenal, Boehly has strongly suggested focusing on Fernandez.

This time, it seems, Chelsea's owner is not messing things up. To that end, it emerged on Sunday that the Blues are in further talks with Benfica over his signature.

Fernandez himself seems to want to move, and Boehly is now intensifying those efforts.

Indeed, the Daily Mail reports that a large Chelsea delegation will fly to Lisbon for talks with Benfica on Monday.

And the Blues' traveling squad have been ordered not to leave Lisbon without an agreement. The nature of Chelsea's bid remains unclear, however.

They will try again to pay the whole fee in parts. However, some reports suggest that they may step up to secure his signature before the January window closes.

Indeed, Benfica's position remains that they do not want to sell. But when faced with a release clause, the Portuguese club will have no choice but to accept it.

In addition, Boehly is believed to have revived his bid amid growing fears over two Blues stars. To that end, the club fear Jorginho and N'Golo Kante are likely to leave as free agents this summer.
