Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy is expected to be out for up to six weeks after picking up a thigh injury in the Copa del Rey quarter-final.

 The 27-year-old suffered an injury before half-time in the 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid and sat out the goalless draw with Real Sociedad. 

Real has now confirmed that Mendy has been diagnosed with a muscle injury and local reports believe that he could be out of action for up to six weeks, which is a major setback for this season. 

Real, who are five points behind Barcelona in La Liga, have tough league games against Valencia and Real Betis to look forward to over the next six weeks, as well as a Madrid derby against their rivals. at Atletico on February 26.

 Carlo Ancelotti's men are also set to travel to Camp Nou to face Barcelona on March 19, giving Mendy a real race against time to be fit for this crucial fixture. 

In the Champions League, Real will also be without Mendy in the first leg match against Liverpool at Anfield on February 21. Jurgen Klopp's Reds travel to Madrid for the second leg three weeks later on March 15.
