Real Madrid 2-0 Celta Vigo: Player Ratings as Los Blancos win comfortably

Real Madrid secured their sixth win in seven games as their late season run of form continued with a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga.

Carlo Ancelotti's men returned home with a win after knocking Chelsea out of the UEFA Champions League in midweek.

Los Blancos are five points clear of city rivals Atletico Madrid, although they are eight points behind league leaders Barcelona.

Real Madrid took the lead five minutes into the game when Eder Militao's long ball was headed high by Marco Asensio, but Renato Tapia was able to clear the ball in time.

Asensio and Dani Ceballos had long-range efforts as the hosts struggled to break down the visitors. Los Blancos also looked in danger, but Celta Vigo were often let out by inches and millimetres.

But the pressure finally told, and Real Madrid took the lead just before halftime. The ball that Ceballos took in the middle of the two defenders was well taken by Vinicius Junior, who cut to Asensio and took the ball from Javi Galan into the top corner.

Shortly after the second half of the game, Real Madrid followed. Asensio's corner was met by the onrushing Militao, who powerfully headed home - his fifth La Liga goal of the season.

Celta Vigo's first chance saw Iago Aspas sky cut back, blaming the mistake on the cut Santiago Bernabeu grass.

Vinicius managed to get away from the Celta Vigo player and jumped on the line as the hour went on and found Karim Benzema's cross and the Frenchman forced Ivan Villar to make a save at the near post.

At the other end, Aspas managed to sit down Nacho Fernandez who retired at the back, and then rounded Thibaut Courtois, although the Belgian star managed to deny the scorer. Real Madrid cruised to victory in the 5th minute of extra time.

Real Madrid player rating (4-3-3)

GK: Thibaut Courtois - 6/10 - Did very little.

RB: Nacho Fernandez – 6/10 – Amazing ball and well crossed. Attacks joined when necessary.

CB: Eder Militao - 8/10 - How the hell did a centre-back score five goals in a season in the league? One month left!

CB: Antonio Rudiger - 6/10 - Not as proven as his fellow centre-back but good nonetheless.

LB: Eduardo Camavinga - 8/10 - Chased every loose ball and tortured the Celta Vigo players with his pressing and tackling. A joy to watch defensively.

DM: Aurelien Tchouameni - 6/10 - Stopped many turnovers, especially in the first half, although it was a bit of a possession.

CM: Federico Valverde – 6/10 – Brought energy but didn't need to be the force behind the win.

CM: Dani Ceballos - 8/10 - It's easy to see why Real Madrid would want to tie him down to a new contract. She jumped between the lines and broke Celta Vigo's blocks down the middle.

RW: Marco Asensio - 9/10 - Another excellent performance from a man who will undoubtedly have a lot of clubs in his door if Real Madrid decide not to renew his contract. Wicked intersections combined with the eye of the goal.

CF: Karim Benzema - 5/10 - One of Benzema's quiet evenings, although it didn't hurt. It didn't really come to life until after the hour.

LW: Vinicius Junior – 7/10 – Made a good assist but was otherwise a little loose the ball.
